Panel discussion: Cutting Through the AI Noise: Building Global Tech from Prague
„Just add AI“ — they said. But what happened when you actually needed to deliver? We met Apify and Make, two Czech tech companies that turned smart automation into worldwide success without jumping on every hype train. How did they navigate global markets and investors while staying TRUE to their vision? We joined Lenka from prg.ai as she got candid with companies that proved Czech tech can compete on the global stage — and win.
Speakers:
-
Honza Ženíšek, Apify, VP of Product
-
Patrik Šimek, Make, Co-Founder & CTO
-
Lenka Kučerová, prg.ai, Deputy Director (host)
They discussed the integration of AI in their global automation businesses and highlighted the core missions of their companies and explored personal journeys within the tech industry. Key topics included:
- AI Hype: How Apify and Make have maintained their strategic direction despite the surge in AI popularity and its impact on their product plans.
- Realities of AI Implementation: Challenges encountered when incorporating AI into products, illustrating that AI integration is often more complex than it appears.
- AI’s Impact on Customer Expectations: How evolving AI technologies have altered customer expectations and the strategies companies use to deliver valuable solutions.
- AI in the Workplace: The benefits and challenges teams face when adopting AI, including changes to workflows and team dynamics.
Building in Prague:
- Advantages and obstacles of developing a global tech business from Prague versus traditional tech hubs, and the role of the Czech ecosystem in supporting these companies.
- Experiences with Acquisitions: Insights from Integromat’s growth and acquisition by Celonis, and lessons from Apify’s funding challenges during a market downturn.
Professional Advice:
- Recommendations for engineers to adapt to an AI-driven industry, lessons on creating impactful tech companies, and suggested resources for staying current with tech and business trends.
